Sourcing Guidelines

Experian Hitwise encourages clients and the media to use  its data in news stories or for marketing, public relations and advertising purposes. All such uses of Experian Hitwise data should be approved by the marketing department and should adhere to the following policies:

  • Any Experian Hitwise data used in news stories or for marketing purposes including research reports, research analyst blogs must be sourced to Experian Hitwise.
  • The Experian Hitwise name should always appear with the first letter capitalised and no spaces in between the word 'Hitwise':

    Correct = Experian Hitwise

    Incorrect = Hitwise, Experian HitWise, Experion Hitwise, Experian Hit Wise, Experian hitwise, experian hitwise, HitWise, Hit Wise, hitwise
  • All time periods, metrics and markets need to be indicated. For example:

Rankings:
The rankings data is based on market share of visits, which is the percentage of online traffic to the website or industry, for the week ending August 15, 2009 from the Experian Hitwise sample of 3 million Internet users in Australia.  Experian Hitwise measures more than 1 million unique websites on a daily basis, including sub-domains of larger websites. Experian Hitwise categorises websites into industries on the basis of subject matter and content, as well as market orientation and competitive context.

Search Terms:
The data is based on the percentage of all searches for the four weeks ending August 15, 2009 from the  Experian Hitwise sample of 3 million Internet users in Australia. Source: Experian Hitwise

Custom Data:
All material citing data from a Custom Category or Custom Aggregation must indicate that the data has been customised. This statement must be sourced when published. All Custom Category and Custom Aggregation data must be approved by Experian Hitwise prior to publishing. For example:

The Experian Hitwise data is based on a custom category of 10 Multimedia websites ranked by market share of visits, which is the percentage of online traffic to a website or industry, from the Experian Hitwise sample of 3 million Internet users in Australia. Source: Experian Hitwise
